Beginning in 1977, I worked as a laboratory lecturer at the University of Montreal, and then as an assistant professor at the University of Rouen (France), becoming the youngest professor among the faculty. After that, I became a researcher at the Hoffmann-Laroche Institute of Molecular Biology (New Jersey-New York). From 1984 to 1993, I was a scholar, assistant professor and professor of virology at the Armand-Frapier Institute/University of Quebec, and an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of the University of Montreal. From 1989 to 1992, I also served as the chairman of the Association of Professors.
From 1993 to 1999, I performed two tasks as the chairman of the IAF Virology Research Center. During this period, I was responsible for management research and teaching (Master and PhD). The center is composed of 22 professors, about 30 postdoctoral researchers (postdoctoral staff), about 100 students, and 75 support staff (technical and administrative staff). Because of my management of academic affairs and the high-quality research of all my colleagues in the department, I almost passed the vote and was re-elected. The department and the Armand-Frapier Institute participated in the exploration of 3TC-Lamivudine, which is the most widely used drug for the treatment of HIV and hepatitis B in the world.
